“5-In-5″ Internship at Vinschool: There is No Right or Wrong Answer until a Solution is Implemented
Educational management is a field that not only requires management capabilities and creativity, but also demands the manager to possess an educational mindset with an emphasis on the human factor. In order to understand how a leading private educational institution in Vietnam operates, VinUniversity’s College of Business and Management students are given the opportunity to participate in a “5-in-5” internship at two schools in the Vinschool Education System. For this internship, students were confronted with a real-world challenge facing Vinschool and tasked with coming up with a solution by the end of their internship.
In the search for ‘answers’, students first spent time at 3 Vinschool departments and learned from the schools’ leadership to understand the institution’s educational management model and operations. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, currently majoring in Business Administration shared her experience during the internship: “The conversation in the Head Office of VinSchool opened my eyes to how an educational service operates. The difference between working and studying is much clearer for me; then, I understand how to prepare for my future”.
Besides the opportunity to discuss with the two schools’ leadership, VinUniversity students were able to directly survey teachers, students, and local residents to collect information and conduct analysis. “We all learned an age-old lesson. All the case studies in our textbooks have detailed answers, yet real-world problems don’t. It seems that there are no right or wrong answers until the solution is actually implemented”, shared Le Trung Kien – a Hospitality Management student.
After 4 weeks, VinUniversity students presented their solutions to representatives of Vinschool and received feedback on whether their proposals were realistic. This played an important role in helping students apply their “real study – real practice” mindset to solving real problems facing leading businesses and corporations – where standards are high and innovative breakthroughs are demanded.
For Trung Kien, this early exposure was a valuable experience, especially as an opportunity for him to understand different fields. “Despite pursuing Hospitality Management, after the internship, I realized that hospitality is not limited to restaurants or hotels, but other sectors also call for the spirit of hospitality and emphasis on the customer experience.”
