Dr. Nguyễn Viết Hoàng, Research Assistant at the 3D Technology in Medicine Center and Chief of Office at the Vietnam Association of 3D Medical Technology, is one of the founding students of the Master of Business Administration in Innovation and Artificial Intelligence program at VinUniversity. Beyond his role as a doctor, his quest to solve critical challenges in healthcare has brought him closer to technology and management. His journey exemplifies the spirit of a pioneer: daring to think differently, act differently, and lead change.
Discover Dr. Hoàng’s story and why he continues to invest in postgraduate education to drive sustainable innovation in healthcare.

WHEN IDEALS TAKE ROOT
Like many medical students, from my very first days in university, I held a simple ideal: to treat illness, save lives, and do something meaningful for the community.
That journey led me to my current work at the 3D Technology in Medicine Center at VinUniversity. Here, our team successfully developed 3D printing applications, most notably patient-specific titanium alloy bone replacements for bone cancer patients at Vinmec Times City’s Orthopedic Trauma & Sports Medicine Center. This breakthrough reduced the time needed from 3–4 months for imports to just a few weeks in Vietnam. The achievement came from close collaboration between engineers, doctors, and researchers, each contributing their own “piece of the puzzle,” from technical design and surgical planning to quality inspection and clinical implementation. This interdisciplinary coordination has given many patients a precious chance at life, where time is a decisive factor.
This experience helped me realize that to create a deep and widespread impact, medicine must go beyond pure clinical expertise and embrace interdisciplinary integration. That’s why I set a goal to build an ecosystem that connects medicine, technology, and management, so that medical advancements can serve not only the Vinmec Health System, but also spread to many other centers nationwide and abroad, ensuring patients everywhere have timely access to treatment.
“A BRIDGE” FOR THE BIG PICTURE
However, medical products are a special category requiring strict management, not only in meeting production standards, qualified personnel, and certified equipment, but also in adhering to medical ethics. In my role at the Center, I have always been a “bridge” between clinicians, researchers, and technology engineers. But to connect these pieces into a fully functioning system, I needed formal management training. So when VinUniversity launched its MBA program, I knew it was the perfect opportunity for me to grow.
MBA IN EVERY BEAT OF WORK
For me, studying MBA at VinUniversity while working full-time and conducting research is not a burden to balance, but rather a complementary process, where each activity enhances the value of the others.
The program is designed with a strong practical orientation, so from the very first courses, especially those integrating AI, I was able to apply the knowledge and tools to my work directly. As a result, our workflows have been significantly optimised, with design time shortened, accuracy improved, and data analysis becoming faster and more efficient.
In addition, Professor Haico Ebbers, who teaches Business Economics, helped me view healthcare issues through an economic lens, something I had never considered before. This provided me with a deeper understanding of how policy, market forces, and financial management impact healthcare services.
HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
The MBA class at VinUniversity is truly a multidisciplinary environment, bringing together students from various fields such as engineering, business, finance, and technology. For me, every discussion is an opportunity to learn different perspectives, enriching my thinking and problem-solving approaches. This cross-pollination of knowledge also makes group projects more comprehensive, creative, and highly applicable.
For me, the most “worthwhile” aspect of studying MBA at VinUniversity is undoubtedly its professionalism and modern vision. The program doesn’t just impart knowledge — it shapes students into leaders capable of adapting to the rapid changes of our time.
